Today at Preschool, one of my son's teachers told me that he could use some extra work at home on his pencil grip. His grip is correct, but weak. We love to do worksheets at home, but they can use up so much ink & paper. So, I did some research and ordered two products to help us work on his grip. ** This post contains affiliate links **
What initially attracted me to the Crayola Dry Erase Activity Board is that it holds multiple activity sheets and comes with four high quality dry erase markers.
After we received it, I was very happy with my purchase. The markers stay secured in their locking positions. The eraser is hard to pull off, but when they want to work on something, I just take the erase off and flip it over for use. I wish I had purchased this a long time ago for the pages we have already drawn on in our printed worksheet books.
Choosing a pencil grip took a lot more research. There are so many pro's and con's to the various options out there. Ultimately, I chose the CLAW because it builds the habit of an efficient grip, which in turn produces improved handwriting and control. The center of the CLAW is extremely flexible and works for holding pencils, pens, crayons, markers, utensils and paintbrushes.
The CLAW grip exercises control over the hand and gently holds their fingers in the proper position, which means children don't need to think about the mechanics of correct grip. At first I struggled to get to figure out where to place their figures, but then I discovered there are markings on the underside of the "finger cups” that instruct proper finger placement.
