For Valentine's Day my class enjoyed the movie Trolls along with a deliciously sweet Cupid Crunch snack mix! We asked parents to donate a portion of the snack and the students loved it! Our mix consisted of:
Cupid Crunch • Berry Berry Kix • Vic's Popcorn • Goldfish Grahams Vanilla Cupcake • Goldfish Grahams Strawberry Shortcake • Chex Muddy Buddies • Strawberry Wafers (broke into small squares) • M&Ms • Waffle Bowls • Take home baggies The part the kids loved the most were the waffle bowls the snack was served in! My favorite part were the Valentine cellophane bags we sent home leftovers in! It made clean-up quick and easy, plus I wasn't sent home with tons of sweets! With love (and candy) all around what better way is there to work on patterns than with candy conversation hearts?
Today my class worked on AB, AAB, ABB, and AABB sequence patterns. I explained they needed to continue the pattern on their pages and when they were finished they could eat one and take the rest home in a baggie. The activity was a hit! This set also comes with printed hearts if you don't want to use actual conversation hearts. To avoid spreading germs each student was given ten hearts to begin and if their pattern required more I would then put more out. Have you read the fun twist on the classic story of the 3 Little Pigs? If not, you must check out "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs" book from the library, go download or order it from Amazon! Just like the premise of Wicked, there are always two sides to a story. THE BOOKIn this version of the 3 little pigs, the story is told from the perspective of Alexander T. Wolf (a.k.a. The Big Bad Wolf). The wolf is trying to set the story straight of how he came to be 'big and bad'. At the beginning of the book he's cooking a cake for his grandmother's birthday, but he's run out of sugar. He goes to ask his neighbors, the pigs, for some sugar. They all say no to him, and as a result of a sneeze, he 'accidentally' blows the first two pigs' houses down. Since they're already dead he eats them. The third pig's house (made of bricks) does not suffer the same fate. Mr. Wolf is arrested and the third pig survives. So Mr. Wolf is in jail and his poor sweet granny gets no birthday cake. THE PLAYWe were lucky to recently go see a production of this story at our local children's theatre. This was our first visit to the Rose Theater and my boys LOVED it! We picked up our tickets at will call, grabbed some booster seats and got in line since seating is unassigned. We scored some great middle aisle seats near the front and my boys were mesmerized when the play started. I'll admit I was nervous at first about how they'd handle the death of the pigs but the production made it very lighthearted and my boys didn't even think twice about it. The show was filed with dramatic scenery, lively characters, and great musical numbers, plus audition participation! Afterwards we even got to meet two characters! We will definitely been seeing more shows at The Rose! |
