Here is another great center using letter beads and neon shot glasses from Oriental Trading. Using a permanent marker, label each cup with a letter. Depending on your differienated learning levels the letters you write can be all uppercase for simple matching or add a challenge and write them lowercase for kids to work on lower/uppercase matching. Put out letter beads for kids to sort and match. You can do this activity on a regular table, but I like the added appeal of placing it on our light table. This activity is also great for fine motor work focusing on pinching the beads for sorting.
The translucent neon glasses and letters beads (plus tons of other goodies) can be found at Learn365 from OrientalTrading.com! http://www.learn365.orientaltrading.com/curriculum/math-a1-555425.fltr These items were provided complimentary as part of the Oriental Trading Brand Ambassador program. I am so excited to share with you the latest preschool centers we are using in my classroom. The students in my classroom vary in levels of fine motor skills, so a lot of our new centers focus on fine motor work along with the academic theme. Easy Clean TraysFirst things first, I needed to make sure our new centers could be contained for little hands. Oriental Trading has a great set of Easy Clean deep trays for any craft. They come in a rainbow of colors and are very durable. They measure 16" x 12" with a 1" lip, which is perfect for accommodating a variety of projects. Apple LinkingOur September theme is apples so I took these apple number cards, copied them onto cardstock and laminated for durability. I then punched holes on the bottom and gave our students large links to clip on the appropriate amount of links. The links are from Oriental Trading and work fabulously. After they have completed the centers my students often like to make color patterns and necklaces with the links. Light Table CupsMy students LOVE our classroom light table. I recently discovered some translucent neon shot glasses on OrientalTrading.com and knew they'd be a perfect addition to our light table. They're the perfect size for little hands, they can stacked into towers and students can also see how the cups change colors when stacked on top of each other. The set comes with cups so there are plenty to use for other centers. Alphabet StewWe play a letter sound review game in class called 'Alphabet Stew'. Together we sing "Bippity boppity boo. Let's make alphabet stew." In the past I've had small alphabet cards in a bowl for students to pick out but I wanted to find something they could scoop out with a ladle. Oriental Trading has foam letter sponges which worked great! They are 1-2" tall and fit perfectly into a ladle! The set comes with all the letters of the alphabet and two sets of numbers 0-9. These stampedes are also great for paint stamping. Name Formation BagsEvery day in class we work on name recognition, spelling, and formation. One of the ideas I had stemmed from our paint bags used for letter formation. My students love tracing letters on top of ziplock bags full of paint. I wanted to take this further and put clear hair gel in a bag with letter beads. The goal is to have students move around the beads in the bag to find the letters in their name and put them in order. I ordered these beads from Oriental Trading and am excited to try out this idea! These beads also glow in the dark so it could be a fun extension to use on our light table! **I haven't created this center yet, but as soon as I do I will take photos. You can find these items and tons of other goodies at Learn365 from OrientalTrading.com! http://www.learn365.orientaltrading.com/curriculum/math-a1-555425.fltr
These items were provided complimentary as part of the Oriental Trading Brand Ambassador program. All ideas and opinions are strictly my own. I stopped by my favorite place, the Target Dollar Spot, and found some new accessories for my classroom light table! My store had Glitter Kittens & Puppies, Safari Animals, Unicorns & Ponies, and Dino Figures (that includes glow-in-the-dark pieces!) When introducing the new pieces in the classroom I also included some neon translucent shot glasses from Oriental Trading, which the kids loved! Some made the pedestals for the animals, while others used them as cages. My favorite pieces are the Safari Animals, although the giraffes were hard to stand up (I spread out their legs and they stood up better). The kids loved the glittery Kittens & Dogs, as well as the Unicorn & Ponies, but like the giraffes, they were difficult to get to stand on their own. Overall they are a great purchase and addition to our light table manipulatives!!
