For those in southeast Nebraska, or those traveling through the state, Fremont Splash Station is a great AND affordable stop for kids to cool down at. Located in Fremont, 18 miles northwest of Omaha, the Fremont Splash Station offers water fun for all all ages. Youngest little fishies can play in a splash pad or join younger kids in the zero-entry pool with a train featuring three slides and sprayers, in addition to several water spouts, a waterfall mushroom, and a bucket of water that releases every few minutes. For older kids and kids-at-heart, there is a wave pool, a suspended water bridge, and water slides. The splash station opens at 11:30am and if you want a lounge chair in the shade, I recommend getting there early. We arrived at twenty minutes early and there was already a big line. Tickets are $6.50 for adults and $5 for kids 5 and up. As you enter there is an employee ready to measure anyone wanting to ride the water slides (48" for yellow slide and 52" blue slide). From that point you can enter either the men's or women's changing rooms or there is a path straight back to the pool. As with most public pools, they do post a sign stating you must take a warm shower before entering the pool. Once inside the splash station, there are two large awnings covering roughly 15 lounge chairs each from the sun. There are plenty of lounge chairs in the sun, two large umbrellas, plus a large grassy area for extra seating. We brought a waterproof picnic blanket just in case there would t be any spots left... Which ended up working great because we although we did end up under a canopy, our blanket spread across all four lounge chairs reserving our chairs and allowing our towels to be spared for warming up kids fresh out of the water. Splash PadThe splash pad was popular amongst 'lil ones. It features two water guns, a rainbow tunnel sprayer, and other misters. TrainThe train was by far the most popular feature my kids enjoyed. There are stairs by the water tower and once inside there are four water guns they can shoot. Three slides offer three different depths for kids to splash into. Once in the train, the first slide to their left (pictured on the right of the photo above and below), ends in the zero-entry pool portion. Tip: The slides on the sides have water spraying at the top, which can intimidate some children, but it's not as powerful as it appears. Adults are allowed in the train with younger (or frightened) kids. Typically after on trip down with Mom or Dad, the kids had no fear of the slides. The slide on their first right (pictured above on the left) lands the deepest. The water is shoulder deep for my 4-year-old. The front slide lands in slightly less deep water. About hip-deep for my 4-year-old. Zero Entry Pool & Water SpoutsAs you walk onto the pool deck you will be greeted with the zero-entry pool. You'll find many parents keeping cool by lounging in the zero entry water while watching their kids play close by. There are also three powerful water spouts kids can play with and a mushroom umbrella that rains down water. Every few minutes you'll hear a train stop bell ringing, which means the water tower is about to release a lot of water. Don't be afraid to stand underneath! Wave Pool, Water Bridge & Water SlidesThe wave pool is fairly mild, making it enjoyable for young kids. Inner tubes are provided and free swimming is allowed. My song loved floating in the waves without a tube. We didn't have the opportunity to ride the water slides, so I can't speak specifically on them. However, one is a speed slide (blue) and the other (yellow) is curvy slide. Both are for single riders, tube-free. The water bridge was very popular with older children. The train signals move in the water and kids have to balance while holding onto a suspended rope. SafetyThe only assisted swimming devices allowed are US Coast Guard approved flotation devices, which does include the ever-popular Stearns Puddle Jumpers. The majority of the staff are high schoolers and possibly college kids home for the summer. I found everyone to be friendly, helpful, and very polite. The lifeguards especially were very focused on the pool making sure everyone was safe. Speaking of safe, they do perform hourly safety break checks while requires all patrons to be out of the pool for 10 minutes, which is a great time to reapply sunscreen, drink some water, bathroom break, and grab a snack from the snack bar. Snack BarThe snack bar offers a wide variety of choices at very reasonable prices, and they will even full up your water bottle with ice water! (There are drinking fountains as well), Water is is the only food or drink allowed inside the splash station. You have the option to exit the splash station to eat lunch at your car and return to swim (which is what we did). There are also small lockers available free of charge, but you must bring your own padlock. Splash Station At A GlanceLocation: 3809 E. Fremont Drive
