Omega-3 consumption extremely important to me and I try to find only the best supplements to incorporate into my diet. I have a family history of cancer, depression, cardiovascular diseases, ADHD, Alzheimer’s, plus arthritis and Omega-3s have been shown to benefit all of these diseases (and more), so I wanted to find the right supplement for me. I look for supplements that provided at least a full daily dosage, are easy to swallow, don’t have a bad taste, or resulted in unpleasant after-effects.
Omega-3 Supreme Fish Oil exceeds the daily recommendation dosages of DHA and EPA, which provides an optimal blend of omega-3s. After continual use my energy has increased and I have noticed an improvement in my overall mood throughout the day. My joints are less sore, my skin looks great—wrinkles have reduced and breakouts have ceased. The soft gels come in a unique round shape, but are equally as easy to swallow as their typical pill-shape counterparts They are easy to digest and do not result in the feared fish-burps. It is important to note that not all fish oils have the same benefits and effects. Higher EPA plus DHA concentrations can provide greater benefits, but the key to tailoring a fish oil supplement to your needs is checking the ratio of EPA to DHA, and deciding which health benefits you’re after. It has been recommended that you take a 3:2 ratio of either EPA to DHA or vice-versa. For instance, DHA outperforms EPA in reducing total triglyceride counts and increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. Alternatively, EPA has a more beneficial effect on lowering overall LDL (bad) cholesterol. In the cognitive domain, DHA has been suggested to be more effective in improving overall cognition and preventing cognitive decline in healthy older adults. While both forms of omega-3 have beneficial effects on the stress response, DHA seems to quell the neurological response (aggression) while EPA modulates stress-affected immune activity. EPA also seems to have greater anti-depressive effects. Here's how a daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids can improve and protect other vital aspects of your body's daily functioning: • Lubricates joints Helps provide the lubrication joints need to function at an effective level. Experience less grinding and less overall wear and tear – and thereby – less pain as you age. • Decreases inflammation in inflamed joints. • Fights Wrinkles: As we age, fat cells in our skin's third layer thin out and tend to get a bit bumpier; omega-3s help make that layer thicker and smooth. Wrinkles go away and skin becomes fuller. • Protects Vision: Our eyes' retinas are a membranous structures and the whole eye is covered in a soft double layer of membranes, making your eyes' health dependent on the liver. The liver helps metabolize fat-soluble vitamins that feed and maintain those membranes. If you're deficient in DHA, it affects how we see by delaying the system that converts light into neural energy in the retina. • Pumps the Heart: Omega-3s reduce triglycerides, stabilize your heartbeat, make platelets "less sticky" and can even lower blood pressure. The EPA you get with your daily DHA dose helps prevent artery-blocking clots. In the Iowa Nurses Study (and 3 others), 1 ounce of nuts a day decreased the incidence of heart disease between 20 and 60 percent. • Attacks Acne: Inadequate intake of omega-3 fatty acids contributes to breakout-prone skin. Trade sugar (and meat) for avocados, walnuts, salmon or trout to help control acne. • Clears Cholesterol: Boosts levels of HDL (the good cholesterol) and helps clear your arteries. • Boosts the Brain: In keeping your arteries clear, you're immediately improving brain function. They also alter your neurotransmitters to help reduce depression. • Enhances Fertility: Improves fertility rates in both males and females by improving sperm's swimming ability and the environment for implantation in women. • A Pregnancy Prerequisite: Omega-3 fatty acids directly affect brain development, making it crucial for expectant mothers. Additionally, research indicates they decrease a mother's risk of depression. When the mother doesn't have enough of these essential fatty acids, the baby borrows from her. If you are pregnant, or trying to conceive be sure to check for Omega-3s on the label on your prenatal vitamins.
